Class Resources

Good morning Bulldogs and Bulldog families,

Sadly, our virtual teaching is coming to an end so this will be the last post that you will receive from me this school year.  I hope you have had an opportunity to try some of the activities that I have posted for you.  If not, it's okay as I know that online learning and teaching has been an adjustment for all of us!  That being said, I am going to leave you with some suggestions for activities that you can do with your families, over the summer, to stay ACTIVE and HEALTHY.

At this time of year, we usually watch the Sun and Water Safety video.  I show  you this because we live in an area that is so very close to the water. If you spend time there, I want you to know how to protect yourself (and your younger sibling/cousins/friends) from any danger associated with being in or around the water and sun.

First of all, be sure that an ADULT is watching you at all times.

Obey all the safety rules.  If you are at the pool, read the rules before jumping in.  If you are at the beach, check the color of the flag and see what its color represents.  When at the beach, be aware of RIP CURRENTS.  We have talked about how a rip current will pull you out, away from the shore, and the best thing that you can do is to NOT fight the current! Remain CALM.  Once you are no longer being pulled out, you will be able to swim, parellel with the shore, and back to safety.

Remember to apply sunscreen to your body and face (don't forget your ears).

If you are on a boat, wear your life jacket.

And never jump into water when you are unsure of how deep it is or what is underneath.  You could really hurt yourself!

Here are some ideas that you and your family can do to stay healthy and active during the summer months:

ride a bike

cook together

visit a farmer's market

make smoothies

plant a garden

go to a playground

go swimming

go bowling

paint, draw, write, or read (exercise your brain)

dance

go on a hike

jump rope

grab some sidewalk chalk and play 4 square, hopscotch, or create an agility ladder in your driveway

bake together

throw a frisbee

fly a kite

climb trees

play kickball

build a tree fort

play miniature golf

go boating

make popscicles

visit the library

help with yard work and house work (this will bring a smile to your mom or dad's face)

And, the last thoughts that I want to leave you with are that I am so sorry that our school year was interupted by the coronavirus.  I do want you all to continue to stay healthy and safe by washing your hands for 20 seconds, cover your coughs and sneezes, stay away from anyone who doesn't feel well or is running a fever, and maintain social distancing (do your personal space test, if you can touch someone, you are probably too close).

I hope you ALL have a wonderful summer and I can't wait to see you in August.  If you are not returning to Dixon Elementary, then I wish you the very best at your next school.  Always remember to work hard and be kind!!  I have enjoyed being your PE teacher this year.

Love,

Ms. Domke

Good morning Bulldogs and Bulldog families,

I realize that many of you have bikes, scooters, skateboards, and things like that to use as physical activity but if you want some other fitness options, such as hula hoops, pogo sticks, golf clubs, or tennis rackets, check out Facebook Market Place!  Look under sports equipment and you will find lots of different equipment at very reasonable prices.  You can also check out local thrift shops for items in gently used condition.  Just remember to wipe off everything before using it.

I would also like to recommend that you check out Mike Morris physical education on YouTube!  He is an awesome PE teacher who has some wonderful activities that you can do at home with items that you have right in your house!

And last but not least, I want to give a shout out to James and Gunnar Gotavich whose mom, unknowingly purchased something from me on Facebook Market Place, and when she came to pick it up, I found out that she was their mom and they were in the car!  I was so happy to see them and tell them how much I miss teaching them!  They seemed just as happy to see me!  It truly made my day!

Okay all you bulldogs, remember to wash your hands, work hard, and be kind to everyone!

I miss you ALL!

Love, Ms. Domke

I hope that everyone is doing well and has had a chance to visit GopherSport.com/HomeLearning for some awesome, at home, fitness activities!  If you have not had the opportunity to visit the site, I highly encourage it as they are adding more and more, free, at home activities and resources now that, sadly, school is out for the remainder of the year.

There are training warm ups, yoga, and training/flexibility work outs that can be downloaded and printed off. If you have a clipboard or folder, you can use that to hold all your papers, take them to your workout location, and check them off as you do them.  A great way for students to be in charge of their fitness program! Information is also given on how to make equipment out of things that you already have around the house (laundry basket as a target, a pool noodle as a bat, etc).

For those students who have their own Speed stacking cups, remember everything is on YouTube, go to YouTube.com/speedstacks for the most up to date ideas in cupstacking.

And lastly, I have created a separate PE 2 for 3rd graders and 4th graders.  You should have been given a code by your classroom teacher to join.  Feel free to join but the conversation needs to be about Physical Education and activities that you are doing at home to stay healthy and physically fit!

I miss you all!  Stay safe and healthy!  Work hard and be kind to one another!

 Love, your PE 2 teacher,

Ms. Domke
