Ms. Donna Smith
Welcome to School Year 2023-2024!
My name is Donna Smith and I am excited to be a part of the Bell Fork Bulldogs again this year! I joined Bell Fork Elementary School in 2023 after completing my degree in Elementary Education. This is my second year as a fifth grade teacher but I have over 20 years experience working as a paraprofessional for the Department of Defense School System where I worked with Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Multi-age students, as well as Special Education.
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana but now call Jacksonville, North Carolina home after the Marine Corps stationed me at Camp Lejeune in May 1985. I spent a total of 28 years of combined active duty and active reserve service and retired from the Marine Corps in May 2009. While on active duty, I received a Bachelor of Science degree and after retirement, I realized that teaching was my true passion and pursued my degree in Elementary Education. I am very excited about continuing my journey as a teacher and looking forward to sharing my experiences with your students. I have three children and eight grandchildren who all live locally. Ashley (AlbreeLynn, Weslee, and Marlee) live in Jacksonville, Amanda (Dylan, Tyler, and Savannah) live in Richlands, and Jared and wife Katie (Willow and Wyatt) live in Maysville.
My fiance and I live in the Southwest area of Jacksonville and enjoy going to the beach, traveling, and playing with our two dogs, Boston Terriers Molly and Pip.
My belief is that collaborative support is needed from educators, parents, and students for students to have an amazing 5th grade year. I invite you to ask questions, be involved in any way you can in your students' education. I plan to have open communication between home and school throughout the school year.
